Women's soccer summer ID camp

The Milligan University women's soccer program will host two summer ID camps on Anglin Field: Saturday, June 26, and Saturday, July 24. The camps will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and are open to girls ages 14 and up.

Milligan welcomes Alyssa Whitehead as women’s soccer head coach

Milligan University has selected Alyssa Whitehead to serve as the next head coach of its women’s soccer program. Whitehead joins the Milligan athletics staff after spending the past year as goalkeeper coach with the Jamaican Football Federation and a roster member of the Jamaica women’s national football Olympic qualifying team.

Lisa Buckley resigns as head women’s soccer coach

Lisa Buckley announced Wednesday her resignation as head coach of the Milligan University women’s soccer program. Buckley played for Milligan and graduated in 2004 before becoming head coach in 2008. This fall, she completed her 13th season at the helm of the Milligan women’s soccer program.

A goal in the first four minutes of play proved to be the difference as the Milligan University women’s soccer team fell to Montreat 3-0 Tuesday evening on Anglin Field. The loss marked the third straight for the Buffs after starting the season 6-0.

Poppy Smith scored an equalizing goal in the first half of action, but Milligan University’s women’s soccer team came up short, 2-1, to St. Andrews University Wednesday afternoon on the road. The loss set Milligan back for the second straight game after starting the season 6-0, but the Buffs remained second in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, only four points off the lead.

Danielle Calhoun, Ashlen Burch, Poppy Smith and Gracie Duncan all provided tallies to help send the Milligan University women’s soccer team to a 4-0 win at Bluefield Tuesday night. The victory marked Milligan’s sixth straight to open the season.

Senior Poppy Smith scored two second-half goals to help the Milligan University women’s soccer team remain perfect, and for her effort has been named Appalachian Athletic Conference offensive player of the week. The AAC made the announcement Monday for the week ending Oct. 11.

Smith’s two goals lift Buffs 2-1 over Brenau

Poppy Smith scored twice to lead the Milligan University women’s soccer team to its fifth straight win, a 2-1 road victory over Brenau University Wednesday night. The win kept Milligan perfect on the season at 5-0 as the Buffs remained the only team in the Appalachian Athletic Conference to win every game of the season so far.

Senior Ellie Cachiaras and freshman Victor Castel have been named Appalachian Athletic Conference offensive players of the week for the Milligan University soccer teams, announced the league office Monday afternoon. The awards were for the week ending Oct. 4.
