MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Nov. 18, 2020) – The Milligan University women's soccer team faced one of the hottest teams in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Wednesday afternoon on Anglin Field and came up short 3-0, losing to Reinhardt.
Reinhardt (12-1) scored twice in the first 20 minutes of the match, including the eventual winner in the 14th minute.
Milligan (6-4) had plenty of scoring chances, trailing the total shot margin only 16-13 and 11-9 on shots on goal. Many of those chances came in the second half.
Ashlen Burch and Poppy Smith both were close to finding the back of the net midway through the second half in a span of less than two minutes. Burch had hers on a free kick that required a diving save by Reinhardt goalkeeper Caroline Johnson, then Smith followed moments later with a strike labeled for the upper corner but Johnson was again there for the save.
Reinhardt, which won its 12th straight game, got on the board first when Adriana Garcia scored from the left side on a shot that hit the inside of the far post. Brianna Smotherman added to the lead six minutes later before Garcia rounded out the scoring with her second goal, from close range, in the 69th minute.
Up next, Milligan heads to Athens, Tennessee, Saturday for a 1 p.m. game against Tennessee Wesleyan.
