Smith’s two goals lift Buffs 2-1 over Brenau
Poppy Smith scored twice to lead the Milligan University women’s soccer team to its fifth straight win, a 2-1 road victory over Brenau University Wednesday night. The win kept Milligan perfect on the season at 5-0 as the Buffs remained the only team in the Appalachian Athletic Conference to win every game of the season so far.

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Oct. 7, 2020) – Poppy Smith scored twice to lead the Milligan University women's soccer team to its fifth straight win, a 2-1 road victory over Brenau University Wednesday night. The win kept Milligan perfect on the season at 5-0 as the Buffs remained the only team in the Appalachian Athletic Conference to win every game of the season so far.
Milligan also improved its scoring margin to 19-2 this season.
Smith scored her second and third goals of the season with one midway through the second half and the other with approximately three minutes left in the contest. Her first goal tied the match at 1-1 after Brenau scored early to take the 1-0 lead.
Ellie Cachiaras earned the assist on Smith's match-winning goal in the closing minutes of regulation.
Goalkeeper Lauren Davies came up with nine saves in the victory.
Up next, Milligan returns to Anglin Field for a home match Saturday at 2 p.m. against Reinhardt. It will be the first of three remaining home games on the schedule this season for the Buffs.
