MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Oct. 27, 2020) – A goal in the first four minutes of play proved to be the difference as the Milligan University women's soccer team fell to Montreat 3-0 Tuesday evening on Anglin Field. The loss marked the third straight for the Buffs after starting the season 6-0.
Montreat, one of only two teams still undefeated in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, posted a goal early in both halves to earn its fifth win in the last six outings. The Cavaliers scored first in the fourth minute despite Milligan earning most of the first-half chances, then they followed with a goal in the 51st minute shortly after teams came out of the halftime break.
Both goals proved to stop any momentum the Buffs were trying to build each half, and the Cavaliers rounded out the scoring with a consolation goal in the 82nd minute.
Milligan had plenty of chances, including having an even opportunity in shots taken at 15-15. The Buffs tallied seven shots on goal compared to Montreat's eight.
Up next, Milligan heads to Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. game against the 4-3 Bulldogs. The next home match for the Buffs is set for Saturday, Nov. 7, against Columbia International.
