Buffs move to sole AAC lead with win at Bluefield
Danielle Calhoun, Ashlen Burch, Poppy Smith and Gracie Duncan all provided tallies to help send the Milligan University women’s soccer team to a 4-0 win at Bluefield Tuesday night. The victory marked Milligan’s sixth straight to open the season.

BLUEFIELD, Va. (Oct. 13, 2020) – Danielle Calhoun, Ashlen Burch, Poppy Smith and Gracie Duncan all provided tallies to help send the Milligan University women's soccer team to a 4-0 win at Bluefield Tuesday night. The victory marked Milligan's sixth straight to open the season.
Calhoun put Milligan (6-0) on the board in the 24th minute with all the scoring the Buffs would need. Burch, Smith and Duncan added theirs in the 30th, 84th and 87th, respectively. With the late goal in the closing minutes, Duncan became Milligan's 11th goal scorer this season as the Buffs improved their margin of victory to 23-2 through six games.
The win was the Buffs' fourth shutout of the season, and it moved them into the sole lead in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, two points ahead of Truett McConnell (5-0-1 AAC).
Calhoun and Burch each scored for the second time this season while Smith scored for the fourth time.
As the final score indicated, Milligan dominated the match and held a 26-6 shot advantage, including 10-2 on shots on goal. Goalkeepers Lauren Davies and Maddie Williams shared the time in goal and each made one save.
Up next, Milligan stays on the road for its next three matches starting with Truett McConnell Saturday at 5 p.m. in Cleveland, Georgia. The next home game for the Buffs is set for Tuesday, Oct. 27, against Montreat.
