CLEVELAND, Ga. (Oct. 17, 2020) – The top two teams in the Appalachian Athletic Conference clashed on Saturday, but the Milligan University women's soccer team came up short to Truett McConnell, 2-0.
The loss snapped Milligan's six-game winning streak to start the season. It also marked the first time the Buffs (6-1) failed to find the back of the net twice in any game. Milligan now ranks second in the AAC, one point off the lead.
Truett (6-0-1) jumped out to the early advantage less than 10 minutes in with a goal from Ashleigh Smitherman. It proved to be all the scoring the Bears would need, although Sydney Teague gave them some cushion with a goal in the 68th minute to round out the scoring.
Milligan was outshot in the contest 18-10, including 9-5 on shots on goal. Goalkeeper Lauren Davies made seven saves, two off her season and career high.
Up next, Milligan heads to St. Andrews on Wednesday, Oct. 21, for a midweek road game next week before returning home Tuesday, Oct. 27, for Montreat.
