The Milligan College swim team completed day one of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships Thursday and are entering the second day of competition in third place overall with a combined score of 245.5.

The Milligan College swim team has had a successful season thus far but are looking to add to their success as they compete in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships this week, Feb. 13-15, at the Kingsport Aquatic Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Sterling Burnett of the Milligan College swim team has swam his way into getting recognized as the Appalachian Athletic Conference swimmer of the week for the second week in a row. The league made the announcement Monday afternoon for the week ending on Feb. 2.

The Milligan College swim team faced off with Mars Hill University Saturday afternoon with the men tying 130-130 and the women falling 170-85 on senior day inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

The Milligan College swim team finished up the 2019 portion of their schedule at the Transylvania Invitational this past weekend, and through their efforts Maggie Halloran and Sterling Burnett earned Appalachian Athletic Conference swimmer of the week nods. The announcement was made Monday afternoon by the league office.

The Milligan College swim team had a successful day in the pool with both the men and the women defeating Randolph College Saturday afternoon. The two teams competed in 28 events with the Milligan women winning 170 to 30 and the Milligan men winning 198 to 45.

The Milligan College swimming team competed at Emory & Henry on Friday, Nov. 1, and at Milligan against Lees-McRae on Saturday morning.

The Milligan College swimming team competed in Barbourville, Kentucky, on Saturday against Union College and Bethel University. The women defeated both Union and Bethel and the men defeated Bethel but fell to reigning Appalachian Athletic Conference champions Union College.

After finishing last season nationally ranked for both the men and women’s teams, the Milligan College swimming teams are set to return to action on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Emmanuel Invite in Franklin Springs, Georgia.
