Milligan finishes strong in weekend events
The Milligan College swimming team competed at Emory & Henry on Friday, Nov. 1, and at Milligan against Lees-McRae on Saturday morning.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 2, 2019) – The Milligan College swimming team competed at Emory & Henry on Friday, Nov. 1, and at Milligan against Lees-McRae on Saturday morning.
Both the men and the women finished second behind King University at Emory & Henry Friday evening. The women then won Saturday while the men finished second behind Lees-McRae.
Friday night at Emory & Henry
The women had good performances with the team of Rachel Scheffer, Lindsey Grow, Jordan Clark and Reagan Fillinger won with a time of 2:11.97 in the 200 medley relay. The men also won in that competition with the team of Sterling Burnett, Ben Hawkins, Logan Garazino and Matthew McFalls.
Maggie Halloran won the 800 freestyle with a time of 9:43.27. Mitchell Martin finished second in the same competition on the men's side with a time of 9:20.73. In the 200 freestyle Halloran won with a time of 2:18.20 and McFalls won on the men's side with a time of 2:04.55.
For the 50 freestyle freshman Fillinger finished second with a time of 29.30 and on the men's side Burnett finished with a time of 25.24. For the men's 200 individual medley Hawkins finished in second with a time of 2:20.52. For the women in the 100 butterfly Clark finished second with a time of 1:11.88 and on the men's side Ed Lee finished with a time of 1:04.84.
For the 100 freestyle the men finished in second and third place with Garzonio finishing with a time of 57.42 and McFalls with a time of 57.54. Scheffer finished second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:14.22 and on the men's side Burnett finished with a time of 1:01.39.
Milligan continued with high finishes with Halloran winning the 400 freestyle, Mitchell finished on the men's side in second, Grow won in the 100 breaststroke and Hawkins finished in third.
Saturday at Milligan
Milligan continued to finish with strong times Saturday morning against a strong Division II in Lees-McRae. The team of Scheffer, Grow, Clark and Anna Backus won with a time of 2:10.97 in the 200 medley relay. Their time was also a national A cut qualifier. On the men's side two teams of Burnett, Hawkins, Garzonio and McFalls and the team of John Will Hutcheson, Elijah Manship, Grant Luckett and Lee both finshed with national A cut qualifying times.
Halloran continued her strong performance, winning in the 800 freestyle with a time of 10:16.61. Halloran also got a national qualifying time in the 100 backstroke. On the men's side of the 100 backstroke Burnett won with a national qualifying time as well.
Halloran finished with another national qualifying time in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:35.97.
Up next
Milligan will compete again at Milligan College against Randolph College on Saturday, Nov. 16. The Buffs will then travel to Lexington, Kentucky, to compete at the Transylvania Invitational at the University of Kentucky on Dec. 7.
