Men draw, women fall in last home swim meet
The Milligan College swim team faced off with Mars Hill University Saturday afternoon with the men tying 130-130 and the women falling 170-85 on senior day inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Jan. 25, 2020) – The Milligan College swim team faced off with Mars Hill University Saturday afternoon with the men tying 130-130 and the women falling 170-85 on senior day inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Men's side
Mars Hill and Milligan went back-and-forth the entire afternoon, never allowing the other to take the lead permanently. Sterling Burnett walked away with several wins for the Buffs in the 50 meter backstroke, 50 meter freestyle and the 100 meter backstroke. Matthew McFalls finished .03 seconds behind Burnett in the 50 meter freestyle. Other Buffs with noteworthy finishes included Mitchell Martin winning the 800 meter freestyle, with Noah Bengtson finishing in second, Ben Hawkins winning the 100 meter breaststroke by .30 seconds and the team of Hawkins, McFalls, Jarod Blazo and Logan Garazino swimming to victory in the 200 meter freestyle relay.
Women's side
The women were led by Lindsey Grow who won the 50 meter breaststroke and the 200 meter IM and Maggie Halloran who won the 400 meter freestyle by .05 seconds. The women lost the 200 meter freestyle relay by .36 seconds with the team of Marlie Henegar, Rachel Scheffer, Anna Hathcock and Halloran. Halloran also fell short of a win in the 100 meter freestyle by .05 seconds. Grow also almost picked up a third victory but fell in the 100 meter breaststroke by .09 seconds. Halloran was the only swimmer of the day to obtain a national standard with a time of 4:45.83 in the 400 meter freestyle.
Up next
Milligan travels to Barbourville, Kentucky, on Saturday, Feb. 1, to compete against Union College and King University. After that Milligan will head to the Appalachian Athletic Conference championship which will be held in Kingsport, Tennessee, at the Kingsport Aquatic Center, Feb. 13-15.
