Swim team finishes day one of AAC Championships
The Milligan College swim team completed day one of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships Thursday and are entering the second day of competition in third place overall with a combined score of 245.5.
KINGSPORT, Tenn. (Feb. 13, 2020) – The Milligan College swim team completed day one of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships Thursday and are entering the second day of competition in third place overall with a combined score of 245.5.
Events of the day
To start the day off, the men's 200 medley relay finished in fourth place but secured a national A standard with a time of 1:38.29. The team included Sterling Burnett, Ben Hawkins, Logan Garzonio and Matthew McFalls.
After the men, Maggie Halloran won the women's 500 freestyle with a national A standard time of 5:11.16. Halloran cut her prelim time down by 18 seconds to secure the win. On the men's side of the 500 freestyle, Hawkins finished in seventh place and got a national standard of 4:53.73.
Lindsey Grow earned a national standard next in the women's 200 IM with a time of 2:17.19. On the men's side, Garzonio secured a national A standard time, finishing in third place with a time of 1:58.98.
In the women's 50 freestyle, Anna Hathcock earned a national standard time of 26.21 and on the men's side McFalls earned a national standard as well with a time of 22.28.
Both freestyle relay teams walked away with national A standards as the team of Halloran, Grow, Anna Backus and Hathcock finished in third place with a time of 8:26.80 and the team of Jarod Blazo, McFalls, Garzonio and Hawkins finished in fourth with a time of 7:14.99.
The women finished the day in third place with 120.5 points, and the men finished in fourth with 125. Their third-place finish is 77 points behind second place Brenau and WVU Tech trails the Buffs by 49.5 points.
