A two-run homer in the top of the first was all the scoring either team would do as Milligan University lost to Bethany, 2-0, Thursday in the first game of the NAIA Softball World Series. Erin Forgety allowed just two hits over six innings.

Softball advances to NAIA World Series

Bailey Cantrell hit a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning, and the Milligan University softball team thwarted an early deficit and a late scare to defeat University of Rio Grande 6-3 Wednesday in the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round. The win saw Milligan sweep the Lawrenceville Bracket and advance to the NAIA Softball World Series for the first time in program history.

Erin Forgety threw her third shutout of the season, and Milligan University won its first-ever NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round game, 4-0, over University of Rio Grande Monday afternoon. The game took place at Georgia Gwinnett College’s Grizzly Softball Complex.

Neelee Griffith hit a two-run home run in game one, Cloee-Anna Merritt pitched a three-hitter in game two, and Milligan University secured its first Appalachian Athletic Conference softball title since 2012 with a sweep of Brenau, 6-5 and 4-2, Monday at Anglin Field.

Softball wins ninth straight in split with No. 15 Truett

Milligan University punched its ticket to the NAIA Softball National Championship and moved closer to the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season title with a split doubleheader against No. 15 Truett McConnell Saturday at Anglin Field. Milligan won game won by the run rule, 10-2, before having its nine-game winning streak ended with a 5-3 loss in game two.
