For the second time in its young history and first time since 2016, the No. 12 Milligan University women’s golf team will compete in the final round of the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship after making the cut following round two on Wednesday.
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (May 26, 2021) – For the second time in its young history and first time since 2016, the No. 12 Milligan University women's golf team will compete in the final round of the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship after making the cut following round two on Wednesday.
Alayna Perryman and Michaela Lindahl both carded rounds of 77 over the second 18 holes to place 37th overall at the midway point of the national championship. Jenny Simonsen followed with a 78 and Emma Brown with an 80. Meryl Castle shot an 83 on day two, and all five competing Buffs are inside the top 100 with 36 holes left.
"I am so happy for these girls," Head Coach Tony Wallingford said. "They really battled today. High winds in the afternoon made for some very challenging golf."
Milligan fired a 312 on Wednesday after opening the national championship event with a 305 on Tuesday. This puts the Buffs seven strokes out of the top 10 and nine strokes out of seventh place.
"We got off to a great start with everyone at even par after six holes. Then, in the middle of the round we stumbled and made some mistakes that put a few blemishes on the board," Wallingford added. "However, to their credit and competitiveness, these girls were able to pull it back together and finish strong down the stretch to account for a very solid round. We are excited to say the least."
Round three is set for Thursday and round four is set for Friday. The event is taking place at Rose Creek Golf Course. The cut includes the top 17 teams and top 40 individuals.
