MILLIGAN, Tenn. (May 3, 2021) – Alayna Perryman's 2 under par 71 in the final round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference NAIA Direct Qualifier last week helped her and No. 11 Milligan University win the top recognition among postseason awards, announced Monday morning.
Perryman won AAC player of the year along with a spot on the AAC All-Conference first team. Michaela Lindahl and Meryl Castle earned spots on the All-Conference first team as well. Head Coach Tony Wallingford won AAC coach of the year, and the Buffaloes ran away with the AAC regular season and tournament titles.
"I am so proud of each of these young ladies," said Wallingford. "They have worked very hard on their game and are most deserving of the all-conference recognition."
In determining All-Conference honorees, the AAC used a weighted formula for the overall season and fall and spring conference rounds. In detail, the process used the overall Golfstat adjusted scoring average for each player and weight them at 60% and weighted the four conference rounds at 40% to come up with a new adjusted stroke average to determine the first and second team.
Perryman held the lowest stroke average among all AAC golfers, firing rounds of 79-78 at the fall championship and 77-71 at the spring championship. Lindahl (76-78-86-76) and Castle (80-82-81-83) finished third and fifth by this formula.
Milligan next competes at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship Tuesday-Friday, May 25-28. It marks the fourth time in the last five full seasons Milligan qualified for the national championship.
