JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. (Oct. 27, 2020) – The No. 24 Milligan University women's golf team took down two national top-20 teams on the way to wrapping up the fall season with a victory at the ninth annual Jekyll Island Intercollegiate/Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Jekyll Island Golf Club. With a two-day score of 603 (302-301), the Buffs broke Milligan's 36-hole team scoring record.
Milligan defeated No. 14 Southeastern (300-305) by two strokes and No. 18 Coastal Georgia (316-306) by 19 strokes to win its third straight event.
Michaela Lindahl earned all-tournament honors with her fourth-place finish, carding rounds of 76 and 74. Alayna Perryman (76-76) and freshman Gabby Hammond (74-78) placed eighth, and Meryl Castle (81-73) and Emma Brown (76-81) finished 11th and 14th, respectively, in the field of eight teams and nearly 50 individuals.
Milligan sat two strokes behind No. 14 Southeastern after day one, with Hammond's 74 good for a share of the lead. Lindahl and Castle then made improvements on day two, including an eight-stroke improvement from Castle, to help Milligan jump one spot over the last 18 holes.
With her two-day score of 150, Lindahl finished three strokes off medalist honors, which went to Serah Khanyereri (75-72) of St. Thomas.
Milligan's two-day 603 edged the previous Milligan 36-hole scoring record of 604, set by the 2015-16 team at Callaway Gardens. Last year's team set the 18-hole team scoring record at 296.
Up next, Milligan will continue the season in the spring, as the Buffaloes have concluded the fall leg of their 2020-21 campaign.
