No. 24 Buffs win Music City Invitational
Michaela Lindahl and Alayna Perryman earned spots on the all-tournament team, and the No. 24 Milligan University women’s golf team took the crown at the Music City Invitational, hosted by Cumberland University Monday and Tuesday at Twelve Stones Golf Club.
GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 6, 2020) – Michaela Lindahl, Alayna Perryman and Meryl Castle earned spots on the all-tournament team, and the No. 24 Milligan University women's golf team took the crown at the Music City Invitational, hosted by Cumberland University Monday and Tuesday at Twelve Stones Golf Club.
The win saw Milligan pull away by shooting nine strokes better than the rest of the field on day two, and it came in a competitive field that featured No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan, No. 12 Cumberland University and No. 21 Lindsey Wilson.
"I am really proud of the girls," Head Coach Tony Wallingford said. "They battled a challenging golf course against some top flight competition. While we have a lot of work to do, it was a good early-season win."
Lindahl, the reigning AAC golfer of the week, and Perryman led the Buffs with two of the tournament's lowest scores. Lindahl posted a 157 (77-80) for third place overall while Perryman posted 158 (80-78) for fourth place. Castle (81-79) followed next in sixth, and Jenny Simonsen, Nellie Berglund and Izzy Griggs all finished in the top 30.
Perryman, Castle and Griggs all posted lower scores on day two, a key part of Milligan's effort to pull away over the last 18 holes. Following day one, Milligan (320-323) was even with Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Truett McConnell (320-339), and the two teams were eight strokes ahead of the rest of the field. Milligan's 323 on day two helped the Buffaloes win by 16 strokes.
Lindahl's individual third-place finish landed seven strokes back of medalist Nathalie Nutu (73-77) of Cumberland and only one stroke back of second place Gracie Parrott (78-78) of Campbellsville.
Up next, Milligan competes at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Championship Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 19-20. The event is set to take place at Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Georgia. The Buffs have been champion or runner-up at each of the last seven AAC Fall Championships.
