JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 29, 2020) – Michaela Lindahl and Meryl Castle's all-tournament team honors helped the No. 24 Milligan University women's golf team earn runner-up at the East Tennessee Collegiate, which took place Monday at Johnson City Country Club.
Teams played 18 holes on Monday and were scheduled for 18 holes on Tuesday, but the tournament was canceled after round one due to inclement weather.
Lindahl landed runner-up individually after shooting 73 while Castle landed fifth after shooting 76.
The Buffs carded 314 as a team, only six strokes off No. 6 University of the Cumberlands (308), which also had the medalist in Carlee Shoemaker (71).
"The fivesome, play with your own team format proved to be really fun," Head Coach Tony Wallingford said. "The folks at Johnson City Country Club did a great job hosting the event, which featured 20 teams. For our first tournament of the fall, both men's and women's teams showed solid potential."
The tournament also saw solid rounds from Alayna Perryman and Jenny Simonsen who shot 79. Freshman Izzy Griggs made her debut with a finish in the top 15, shooting 80.
Milligan came out on top of several Appalachian Athletic Conference schools including Truett McConnell, Tennessee Wesleyan, Brenau, Montreat, Columbia and St. Andrews. Tennessee Wesleyan was receiving votes in the final top 25 poll of last season.
Up next, Milligan heads to the Music City Invitational, set for Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 5-6, at Twelve Stones Golf Club in Goodlettsville, Tennessee.
