Cycling on route for nationals
The Milligan College cycling team is gearing up to head to Rock Hill, South Carolina, for the USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 11, 2019) – The Milligan College cycling team is gearing up to head to Rock Hill, South Carolina, for the USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships.
The team has had a successful regular season, and is looking to be successful at Rock Hill. The event will begin Thursday, Sept. 12, and end Saturday, Sept. 14. Thursday, there will be men's and women's match sprints and team pursuits. Friday, individual pursuit, point race and final to the sprints is being held, and Saturday, there will be time trials, scratch race and coed team sprint.
The full squad includes Manuela Escobar, Megan Jastrab, Gracie Pendleton, Marie Tutterow, Isaac Bryant, Erik Castillo, Keith Mullaly and Brian Sciba.
The men are looking to be led by junior Mullaly. Last year, Mullaly earned a top 25 finish on the men's side to lead the Milligan College cycling team to a seventh-place finish at the USA Cycling Collegiate Cyclocross National Championships.
The women are looking to be led by freshman newcomer Jastrab, who won the junior world championship.
Cycling coach Zack Nave says he expects a good team showing at nationals, "we had a really successful regular season. Our women have done really well, and our men have really come together recently."
Two more national championship events are on the schedule for cycling this year along with the track championship. In October, there will be the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships and then in December, there will be the USA Cycling Collegiate Cyclocross National Championships.
