MILLIGAN, Tenn. (September 22, 2023) – The No. 2 Milligan University women's cross country team swept the top-five finishers for a perfect score at the Eli Cramer Invitational at the M Training Loop on Friday evening.
"Obviously this is such a special race for our program and to be able to honor Eli with two exciting races in front of his family and a home crowd made for a great afternoon on the M loop," said head coach Chris Layne.
Ellen-Mary Kearney set Milligan's three-mile record to win the meet title in 17:34. Caitlin Dominy was the individual runner-up with the second-fastest 3M time in team history at 17:44. The previous three-mile record of 17:59 was held by former four-time national champion and cross country national runner-up Hannah Segrave.
Hannah Brown placed third in 18:04 and Gracie Allen was fifth in 18:16, the fourth and fifth-fastest three-mile times in team history. Zanelle Willemse finished fifth in 18:24.
Patricia Barrera (seventh, 18:29), Kaelyn Slaughter (13th, 18:59) and Ashlyn Haas (14th, 19:04) each notched top-15 finishes.
"This group are just so much fun to coach," said Layne. "You give them a plan and they go after it. Really thought the women did a nice job of working together up front and then on the men's side it was important to step down and get a quicker rep for some of our younger guys. The one thing we're getting from this group every time the lineup is a lot of fight."
The Buffs head to Charlotte for the Royals Cross Country Challenge in two weeks.
