KANSAS CITY, Mo. (September 7, 2022) – Milligan University women's cross country senior Caitlin Dominy earned national recognition as the NAIA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for her performance in the Buffs' opening meet last week.
Dominy ran a personal best time of 17:51.9 to finish ninth of 135 runners at Appalachian State's Covered Bridge Open. Dominy was the only non-NCAA Division I runner to finish in the top 10.
Her time vaulted Dominy into Milligan's all-time women's cross country 5k leaderboard, matching former Buff Bekah Owen for the No. 8 spot.
At the Covered Bridge Open, No. 1 Milligan finished fourth of 13 teams, ahead of Division I institutions from the ACC (Louisville), Big South, OVC and SoCon.
Lizzy Lucason (17:57), Olivia Doran (18:54) and Rachel Dulaney (19:53) each made their way into Milligan's top five in their collegiate cross country debuts. Defending NAIA national champion Alyssa Bearzi notched a 27th-place finish in 18:24.
Dominy joins Buff greats Lemi Wutz (2x in 2021) and Hannah Segrave (2015) as the only Buffs in the last decade to earn national runner of week laurels.
Milligan returns to action on Friday, Sept. 23 at the Queen City Invitational in Charlotte.
