MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Oct. 2, 2020) – Avery DeWolf and Gabrielle Mardis finished 1-2 to lead the No. 8 Milligan University women's cross country team to another dominating win Friday evening at the Buffalo Creek Invitational. DeWolf ran 18:07 while Mardis ran 18:40, the pair leading a group of five Buffaloes in the top seven.
Caitlin Dominy, Gracie Allen and Bekah Owen rounded out Milligan's top five with times of 18:58, 19:15 and 19:33, respectively. Milligan scored 19 points, which defeated second-place Montreat (42 points) by a wide margin.
"Overall, I was really pleased with the way we competed on both sides," Head Coach Chris Layne said. "I expected us to be a little flat based on where we were training-wise, but both teams still got after it and battled the entire way."
Ali Burns (19:44), Kelsey Mowrey (20:00) and Kaelyn Slaughter (20:09) represented Milligan in spots six through eight to finish 10th, 12th and 13th.
"Obviously, Avery and Gabby had a really good day on the women's side, and I think that was a personal best for Caitlin as well, her first sub-19:00," Layne said. "We've got a little work to do yet to solidify our top seven, but I think that will come."
Up next, Milligan has one more event on the schedule prior to the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships. The event will be the AAC Preview, set for Saturday, Oct. 17, in Ashville, North Carolina.
