Volleyball sweeps Rio Grande and Georgetown at Mountain Madness

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (August 26, 2023) – The Milligan University volleyball team posted a pair of three-set victories over Rio Grande and Georgetown on the second day of Milligan Mountain Madness on Saturday.

The Buffs are now 2-2 on the season after the opening weekend. Ella Maiden was named to the Mountain Madness all-tournament team for the second time in her career.

Game 1 – Milligan 3, Rio Grande 0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-22)

The Buffs posted double-digit kills with a hitting percentage of .200 or better in all three sets.

Avery Maiden smacked 13 kills at a .345 clip. Ella Maiden posted eight kills and four total blocks. Shelby Miller added eight kills.

Kolbie Greene dished 34 assists. Riley Brinn had 11 digs and Zoie Larkins notched nine.

Game 2 – Milligan 3, Georgetown 0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-14)

Milligan hit a blistering .545 with 13 kills in the opening set on route to a double-digit set win. The Buffs totaled 32 kills with a .325 hitting percentage.

Avery Maiden had seven kills and three total blocks. Miller had six kills. Brinn, Ella Maiden, Greyson Stevens and Taylor Pavich each had at least four kills. The Buffs combined for 10 total blocks in the victory.

The Buffs head to the Emileigh Cooper Memorial Classic at Rio Grande next weekend.
