Volleyball opens homestand with 3-1 win over KCU

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (October 4, 2022) – The Milligan University volleyball team opened its three-game homestand with a 3-1 victory over Kentucky Christian on Tuesday evening.
The Buffs move to 10-8 on the year and 7-3 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. KCU falls to 5-16, 1-9 AAC.
Milligan smacked 14 kills with a .393 hitting percentage on route to 25-13 set one victory and added another 15 kills at a .300 clip to take the second set 25-21.
KCU did not go quietly as the Knights raced out to a 16-4 lead in the third set. After trailing 21-7, Milligan went on an 8-1 spurt to narrow the margin to seven (22-15) but the Knights closed out the set 25-17.
Three kills by Ella Maiden and two from Shelby Miller helped Milligan establish an early 8-2 edge in the fourth set. KCU used a 5-1 spurt to trim Milligan's lead to one (16-15), prompting a Buffs timeout. KCU took its first lead of the set at 18-17, but Milligan responded with four-straight points, including a pair of points from Greyson Stevens and an ace by Kolbie Greene. Kira Ryan and Maiden notched late kills and the Buffs held on for the 25-21 set win to take the match 3-1.
Miller finished with 19 kills, a four-set career high, and a .317 hitting percentage. Maiden had 11 kills and four total blocks. Stevens notched eight kills and four blocks. Sarah Grace Larkey had six kills and four aces.
Greene finished with a career high 46 assists, eight digs, four kills, three aces and a pair of blocks. Hannah Holmes led Milligan with 14 digs. Paxton Adkins had eight digs and five assists.
The Buffs hosts Union on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m.
