Volleyball takes down Montreat in five set comeback
MONTREAT, N.C. (September 13, 2022) – The Milligan University volleyball team earned a five-set Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) road victory as the Buffs took down Montreat 3-2 on Tuesday evening.
MONTREAT, N.C. (September 13, 2022) – The Milligan University volleyball team earned a five-set Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) road victory as the Buffs took down Montreat 3-2 on Tuesday evening.
Milligan (5-6, 2-1 AAC) rolled to a 25-13 set one victory, but the Cavaliers (1-8, 0-2) responded with 25-18 and 25-22 triumphs in sets two and three. Milligan forced a fifth set with a 25-20 effort in the fourth set and clinched the match with a 15-9 score in the final frame.
In the final set, Montreat led 3-1 early before the Buffs prompted a Cavalier timeout with a 4-0 spurt with kills by Taylor Pavich, Ella Maiden and Greyson Stevens. Four straight Montreat errors and another Maiden kill pushed the Buffs' edge to 10-4. Shelby Miller recorded a pair of late kills as the Buffs took the final set 15-10
Miller turned in another strong offensive day from the outside hitter spot with 18 kills at a .452 clip. Maiden knocked 15 kills on a .467 hitting percentage with six total blocks. Stevens had eight kills and four blocks. Kolbie Greene had 45 assists, 13 digs, six kills and four blocks. Hannah Holmes led Milligan with 14 digs on the night.
The Buffs recorded double-digit kills and a hitting percentage of .152 or better in each of the first four sets and had nine kills in the final set. The Buffs hit .240 for the match with 57 kills.
Milligan welcomes St. Andrews on Saturday morning for the Buffs' AAC home opener.
