Buffs fall in AAC match at Reinhardt 3-0
WALESKA, GA (October 29, 2021) — The Milligan University volleyball lost Friday’s matchup against Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent Reinhardt 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-18).
WALESKA, GA (October 29, 2021) — The Milligan University volleyball lost Friday's matchup against Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent Reinhardt 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-18).
With the loss, the Buffs move to a record of 12-17 (10-9 AAC) on the season while Reinhardt tacks on their 17th win to move to 17-10 (13-5 AAC).
After scoring the first three points of the match, Milligan struggled to overcome two six-point runs by Reinhardt over the course of the first set. The Buffs closed the gap down the stretch with an Abigail Byington kill and three Reinhardt errors but ultimately fell short 25-22.
The second set began with Reinhardt jumping out to a quick 5-0 lead. The Buffs were unable to overcome the early deficit as they went on to drop the set 25-17. Despite the loss, Milligan outhit the Eagles 16-9 in the kill category through the first two sets.
Despite a slow start from the Buffs in the third, they managed to fight their way back into the set to take the lead 15-14. However, that was as big of a lead Milligan would hold as Reinhardt reeled off runs of four and five at the end of the set to win 25-18.
Ella Maiden led the Buffs offense with 10 kills. Carley Gregory finished second on the team with 9 kills.
Layla Grant and Ashelyn Vandergriff were the only Buffs to finish with double-digit digs for Milligan with Grant totaling 16 and Vandergriff adding 10.
Kolbie Greene led Milligan in assists, tallying up 18 assists to go along four kills.
The Buffs return to action Saturday at 11:00 AM in a road match against Point University.
