Buffs turn in remarkable performance to sweep Brenau on senior night
Milligan, Tenn. (October 15, 2021) — The Milligan University volleyball team put on an outstanding display on senior night, sweeping Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent the Brenau 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 27-25).

The Buffs move to an overall record of 10-14 (8-6 AAC) with the win, while Brenau falls to 11-12 overall (6-7 AAC).
The Buffs put together a total team effort in the first set. Four players tallied three kills apiece as they strung together a 7-1 run to take a commanding lead midway through the set. Subsequently, Brenau reeled off a 7-0 run of their own to knot the match at 18. Jericka Emert knocked down two pivotal kills at the end of the first to give Milligan the win 25-21.
Ella Maiden and Carley Gregory were firing on all cylinders as they carried the Buffalo offense to a thrilling 25-23 victory in the second set. After a tied game 23-23, Maiden came through with a kill to give Milligan the one-score advantage. To close out the set, Gregory spiked it over the net into the Brenau court to give the Buffs the win 25-23.
Early on in the final set, Milligan found themselves trailing 10-7. The Buffs quickly made up for the three-point deficit by scoring the next eight points, giving them a 15-10 lead. After an impressive few possessions by Brenau, the match was clenched at 18 apiece. Three straight attacking errors from the Tigers at the end of the third eventually led to the Buffs locking up the win 27-25.
Gregory led Milligan with nine kills. Maiden had seven kills, Emert notched six and Elise Gregory added five kills on a .250 hitting percentage.
Taylor Pavich and Kolbie Greene provided 17 and 13 dimes respectively.
Cameron McConnell and Layla Grant anchored the Buffalo defense scooping up 13 and 11 digs, bringing the team total to 46 on the night.
Milligan hosts Truett McConnell tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in AAC play.
