Volleyball falls in four sets at Union

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (October 7, 2021) – The Milligan University volleyball team was defeated in four sets on the road by Union on Thursday night.
Milligan falls to 8-13 on the year and 6-5 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. Union avenges its earlier five-set defeat to the Buffs earlier in the season and moves to 10-10, 7-4 AAC.
Errors plagued the Buffs in the first set with Milligan miscues accounting for 14 of Union's 25 points in a 25-12 set win for the Bulldogs.
A seven-point run midway through the second set powered the Bulldogs to a 25-13 set two victory.
Late in the third set, Carley Gregory broke ties at 22 and 23 with kills and Abigail Byington finished off the set with a kill that gave the Buffs a 25-23 victory.
Ella Maiden helped the Buffs to a 15-13 lead in set four with five kills and two blocks. Union responded with a 12-5 run to close out the set and match 25-20.
Maiden racked up 10 kills on a .444 hitting percentage with six blocks. Gregory recorded nine kills. Sarah Grace Larkey posted seven kills.
Paxton Adkins led the Buffs with 17 digs. Layla Grant and Cameron McConnell each chipped in with 11 digs. Taylor Pavich dished out 15 assists. Ashelyn Vandergriff posted 11 assists and 10 digs.
