Volleyball sweeps Montreat for first conference win of the season
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (September 14, 2021) – The Milligan University volleyball team bounced back to earn its first Appalachian Athletic Conference win of the 2021 season with a 3-0 sweep of Montreat at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (September 14, 2021) – The Milligan University volleyball team bounced back to earn its first Appalachian Athletic Conference win of the 2021 season with a 3-0 sweep of Montreat at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.
Milligan moves to 1-1 in AAC play (3-8 overall) on the season while Montreat falls to 0-2 (4-4 overall).
Despite five separate ties in the first set, Milligan was still able to win convincingly 25-19. In the second set, the Buffs got out to an early 8-3 lead on their way to a 25-20 set win. After scoring seven consecutive points, Milligan was able to dominate the third set winning 25-17.
The Buffs outhit Montreat with a .283 hitting percentage compared to .146 for the Cavaliers.
Carley Gregory led the way for the Buffs racking up 12 kills with a .471 hitting percentage with three total blocks. Abigail Byington's joined in with nine kills and three total blocks to power Milligan to the convincing win.
Taylor Pavich tallied up 29 assists running the Milligan offense, along with three aces, seven digs and two kills.
Paxton Adkins had an impressive match smacking three aces and recording a team-high 13 digs to lead the way defensively.
The Buffs return to action Thursday night against conference opponent Union in the Steve Lacey Fieldhouse at 6:30.
