Volleyball closes regular season with loss to Point
The Milligan University women’s volleyball team played all three sets close but came up on the short end of a 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-21) loss to Point University Saturday afternoon to close out the regular season inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Nov. 14, 2020) – The Milligan University women's volleyball team played all three sets close but came up on the short end of a 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-21) loss to Point University Saturday afternoon to close out the regular season inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
The Buffs finished the regular season 12-7, all in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.
Carley Gregory led the way with 11 kills while Julia Codispoti tallied seven. Lauren Petty, Sydney Hurd and Taylor Pavich posted 12 assists, 10 assists and seven assists, respectively. Layla Grant and Elise Gregory both made it to double figures in digs with 17 and 13. Cameron McConnell chipped in with nine digs.
All three sets were close the whole way. Neither side ever had a lead larger than four, and the first set saw 20 ties and its largest margin of three points. Point finally broke through with the last two points to win the opening game 26-24.
Point then won sets two and three thanks to runs near the end of each frame. In the middle game, Milligan led 19-17 before an 8-2 run allowed the Skyhawks to pull ahead and win it on a Milligan error. In the final game, Milligan led 20-19 before a 6-1 run sealed the victory for the Skyhawks.
Milligan committed 36 errors in the loss, including a combined six in the closing points of each game.
