BLUEFIELD, Va. (Nov. 7, 2020) – Carley Gregory led the way with 13 kills as the Milligan University women's volleyball team won its ninth straight match Saturday on the road, defeating Bluefield in four sets, 25-19, 25-14, 22-25, 25-18.
The win helped Milligan maintain its status as second in the Appalachian Athletic Conference North Division, 2 ½ games back of the lead, and completed the season sweep over Bluefield after the Buffaloes defeated the Rams in three sets earlier this season.
"I'm happy to get another win today," Head Coach Doneva Bays said following the match. "We had a great start with great intention and focus, which I'm especially proud of the girls for being ready from the start. It was an early morning. We had a little letdown in the third set with too many errors but bounced back in the fourth. I'm happy with our play right now and the direction we are headed."
Gregory was the first of 10 Buffs in the kill column, followed by Julia Codispoti, who had seven, and Abigail Byington, who had five.
Milligan closed the first set on a 13-7 run before starting the second set on a 15-7 run. Altogether, it was a 28-14 run spanning the first two frames that helped put the Buffaloes way out in front two sets to none. Bluefield bounced back in the third, but Milligan closed the fourth set on a 12-3 run which sealed the win.
Up next, Milligan continues the season on the road at Truett McConnell Monday before returning home for the final two matches of the regular season. The home matches are set to take place next Friday and Saturday and can be followed online at milliganbuffs.com.
