Gregory’s career high leads Buffs in road win
Senior Carley Gregory posted a career high 20 kills, and the Milligan University women’s volleyball team came away with a narrow win over Brenau Saturday afternoon on the road. Milligan won in five sets, including by two points in the final set, 25-18, 18-25, 25-23, 25-27, 15-13.

(Oct. 17, 2020) – Senior Carley Gregory posted a career high 20 kills, and the Milligan University women's volleyball team came away with a narrow win over Brenau Saturday afternoon on the road. Milligan won in five sets, including by two points in the final set, 25-18, 18-25, 25-23, 25-27, 15-13.
Gregory's 20 kills led all attackers as she was the first of nine Buffs to make it into the kill column. Sydney Hurd posted 37 assists, and Elise Gregory and Layla Grant led the defense with 15 digs and 13 digs, respectively. E. Gregory's 15 digs also marked a career high.
The two Gregorys were keys to Milligan winning the match near the end. Tied 10-10 in the final set, E. Gregory started a 4-0 run with back-to-back service aces, followed two points later by a C. Gregory kill. Two points after that, C. Gregory finished the match with a kill to send Milligan to the 15-13 victory.
The match featured several runs near the end of each set. In the first, the match was tied 18-18 before Milligan used a 7-1 run starting and ending with a C. Gregory kill to pull away and take the early lead. Two sets later, it would be a 9-5 run starting at 14-14 that sent Milligan ahead.
Milligan looked to finish the match in the fourth set with a 3-0 run that erased three Brenau set points, but the Golden Eagles answered back with two straight points to take the fourth set and even the match at two games apiece.
Up next, Milligan has two midweek road matches next week, starting with Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m. The next home match for the Buffs is set for Tuesday, Oct. 27, against Bluefield.
