Women’s volleyball defeats KCU in swift fashion
Carley Gregory posted a match high 13 kills, and the Milligan University women’s volleyball team steamrolled Kentucky Christian 25-20, 25-17, 25-19 Tuesday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Oct. 13, 2020) – Carley Gregory posted a match high 13 kills, and the Milligan University women's volleyball team steamrolled Kentucky Christian 25-20, 25-17, 25-19 Tuesday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
The win put the Buffs back on the winning track and evened their overall record at 4-4. It was their second win in the last three matches, both wins coming in straight sets.
Set by set
Milligan pulled away for good at 18-18 in the first set when Gregory put down her second and third kills of the match on back-to-back points to help the Buffs finish the opening frame on a 7-2 run. Sarah Grace Larkey finished the run with a kill on the first game point.
Using the momentum from the end of the first set, the Buffs then pulled away even quicker in the second set. Another kill by Gregory capped an 8-2 run to start the middle game, and the Buffs later held leads of 12-5, 17-11 and 21-14. Abby Falcone registered the final kill of game number two.
Kentucky Christian looked to respond with the early lead in game three, but a 3-0 run from Milligan put the Buffs into the lead and they never trailed again. At 11-11, Milligan then used a 5-1 run that featured kills from Elise Gregory, C. Gregory, Julia Codispoti and Falcone, plus a service ace by Layla Grant, to take the final lead and build some cushion for the home stretch.
Match tallies
Behind Gregory's 13 kills, Codispoti had eight kills and Falcone had six kills. Larkey followed with five kills while Jericka Emert posted four kills. Sydney Hurd, Taylor Pavich and Lauren Petty shared the roles as setter, with 12, 12 and seven assists, respectively. Grant posted six assists alongside a match high 16 digs.

Milligan travels to Brenau on Saturday, Oct. 17, to start a three-match road swing. The Buffs return home Tuesday, Oct. 27, against Bluefield.
