Women’s volleyball tops Wesleyan for second straight win
Carley Gregory and Julia Codispoti combined for 29 kills, and the Milligan University women’s volleyball team opened the home season with its second straight win Tuesday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Milligan defeated Tennessee Wesleyan 3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21).
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Sept. 22, 2020) – Carley Gregory and Julia Codispoti combined for 29 kills, and the Milligan University women's volleyball team opened the home season with its second straight win Tuesday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Milligan defeated Tennessee Wesleyan 3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21).
Gregory posted a match high 16 kills with Codispoti following at 13 kills. Five other Buffs registered at least three kills, including Abby Falcone who recorded her fifth on the last point of the match.
Milligan and Tennessee Wesleyan played a close first set, which saw the Buffs rally back from a 23-20 deficit to win in extra points, 26-24. The Buffs used that momentum to go out front 11-0 in the second set, although the Bulldogs fought back to tie the set 18-18. Ten points later, the second set was still tied, 23-23, before a Jericka Emert kill and Layla Grant service ace propelled the Buffs to the second-set victory.
In set three, teams once again played a close set, but a 6-3 run from Tennessee Wesleyan over the last nine points allowed the Bulldogs to claim victory and cut the Milligan lead in half.
Milligan closed the fourth set, and the match, in a similar way as Wesleyan had in set three. All tied up at 20-20, the Buffs won the next three points as part of a 5-1 run over the last six points. Gregory and Falcone close the match with kills on the last two points.
