MILLIGAN, Tenn. (July 24, 2020) – The United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced that Milligan University women's volleyball has earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2019-2020 season. Milligan is one of a record-breaking 1,313 schools to achieve the award this year, topping last year's record by almost 200 teams.
"I am super proud that our players focus on their grades as much as they do their athletic success," Head Coach Doneva Bays said. "They are a true representation of a student-athlete. Especially during this pandemic, it would have been easy to slack off but instead our team continued to thrive. Our program has always strived to represent Milligan well on and off the court."
This award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale.
