Geren wins AAC player and setter of the year
Kellee Geren of the Milligan College volleyball team was named Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Setter of the Year, while Julie Dockery and Carley Gregory received All-Conference distinctions.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 13, 2019) – Kellee Geren of the Milligan College volleyball team was named Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Setter of the Year, while Julie Dockery and Carley Gregory received All-Conference distinctions.
Dockery earned All-Conference first team, and Gregory earned All-Conference second team.
Geren has been a key player to Milligan's success this season. Geren leads the AAC with 1,164 assists averaging 9.9 per match. Geren also has 69 kills, 23 service aces and 319 digs.
Geren was also named All-Conference first team, the third time she has attained this award (2016 and 2018) and the second time she has been named Setter of the Year (2016). Geren was named AAC setter of the week six times this season.
This is the second time Dockery has received All-AAC first team recognition (2018). Dockery has the second most kills on the team with 253, averaging 2.16 per set and leads the team in hitting percentage with a .334.
Gregory was named to the All-AAC second team, leading the team in kills with 346 averaging 3.09 per set.
"I am super proud of our individual accolades," Head Coach Doneva Bays said. "The awards are a great representation of our team's successful season."
Julia Codispoti, Dockery, Jericka Emert, Geren, Alyssa Gibson, Elise Gregory, Cameron McConnell and Mackenzie Simpson were all named to the all-academic team. Gibson was also named to the Champions of Character team.
"Being a student-athlete is no easy feat. Exceeding on and off the court shows these ladies' hard work and dedication," Bays adds.
Milligan enters the AAC tournament 22-10 (16-4 AAC) going undefeated in the month of October and is riding an 11-game winning streak. The Buffs will serve as the No. 3 seed in the tournament that begins Wednesday at MeadowView Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tennessee. Milligan will be looking to return to the NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship after earning a bid in 2018.
The Buffs, winners of the AAC North division, will face the No. 6 seed Montreat (11-21 overall, 11-9 AAC) in the quarterfinal match Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. During the regular season Milligan defeated the Cavaliers twice.
