Buffs keep it rolling with fifth straight win
The Milligan College volleyball team defeated Brenau University in four sets (25-8, 25-14, 22-25, 25-12) in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. After today’s match, Milligan advances to 16-10 (10-4 AAC) and Brenau drops to 2-25 (2-15 AAC).

After today's match, Milligan advances to 16-10 (10-4 AAC) and Brenau drops to 2-25 (2-15 AAC).
Set by set
The Buffs only allowed the Golden Tigers two kills compared to Milligan's 10 as the Buffs dominated the first set. Milligan had six aces in the first set, three apiece from freshmen Paxton Adkins and Ashelyn Vandergriff. Both Adkins and Vandergriff each served 10 times in a row as Milligan went on two separate runs in the first set.
In the second set 19 of Milligan's points came from kills as the Buffs out killed the Golden Tigers 19-5. Senior Kellee Geren picked up her 12th double-double of the season during the second set and finished the match with 33 assists and 15 digs. The Buffs had a hitting percentage of .417 in the second set.
Brenau fought back and defeated Milligan in the fourth set to avoid a three set sweep. Brenau trailed Milligan the entire set but went on a 10-4 run at the end of the set to win it.
Milligan bounced back in the fourth set, never allowing Brenau the lead. During the fourth set Carley Gregory served seven times in a row and had four aces during that time. Gregory also accounted for four of the 10 kills in the fourth set.
By the numbers
Gregory, Adkins and Vandergriff accounted for 14 of the 16 Milligan aces today. Gregory and Vandergriff had four and Adkins had six. Gregory had a set high of 14 kills. The defense was led by Geren and Layla Grant who had 15 digs apiece and Cameron McConnell and Adkins who had 10 digs apiece.

After today's match the Buffs only have six regular season matches left with three on the road and three at home. Their next game will be at home on Tuesday, Oct. 15, against Tennessee Wesleyan at 6:30 p.m. Milligan then travels for the next three matches before returning home for the final two of the regular season.
