Milligan sweeps Kentucky Christian
For the second time this season the Milligan College volleyball team defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference newcomer Kentucky Christian in three straight sets.
GRAYSON, Ky. (Oct. 8, 2019) – For the second time this season the Milligan College volleyball team defeated Appalachian Athletic Conference newcomer Kentucky Christian in three straight sets.
Set-by-set
Milligan had to go past regulation ending score to defeat Kentucky Christian 26-24. Kentucky Christian jumped out with an early lead but Milligan went on a 10-2 run to regain the lead and make the score 14-10. Later in the first set KCU went on a 6-1 run after being down 20-14. They tied the game up at 21-21 and the two teams battled it out to the very end. Back to back kills by Alyssa Gibson then Julia Codispoti gave Milligan the two points they needed to clutch the first set victory.
The Buffs did not lose the lead during the entire second set as they defeated the Knights 25-15. The Buffs attacked early and took advantage of Kentucky Christian errors. The Knights had seven errors in the second set compared to Milligan's three. Milligan out killed KCU 16-11.
Milligan went on a 12-3 run in the third set to make the score 19-11 before Kentucky Christian answered back with an 8-2 run to make the score 22-19, putting the Knights back in the set. A Carley Gregory kill however, propelled Milligan to securing the set and match win and defeat the Knights 25-20.
By the numbers
Milligan out killed Kentucky Christian 48 to 32. Alyssa Gibson led the offense with 13 kills. Kellee Geren had 25 assists, and Layla Grant and Ashelyn Vandergriff led the defense with 16 and 11 digs respectively.
