Buffs defeat Lions in four
The Milligan College volleyball team faced Bryan College for the second time this season and defeated them to split the regular season series. The Buffs won in four sets (25-17, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22) inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 4, 2019) – The Milligan College volleyball team faced Bryan College for the second time this season and defeated them to split the regular season series. The Buffs won in four sets (25-17, 25-21, 24-26, 25-22) inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Set-by-set
Bryan held an early lead over Milligan in the first set but Milligan battled back and went on a 15-3 run to defeat the Lions. Carley Gregory and Julia Codispoti led the team with five kills apiece in the first set. Milligan out killed Bryan 14 to 10 with only five attack errors compared to Bryan's nine.
In the second set Milligan did not give up the lead at all, jumping out to a 5-0 lead at the beginning of the set. The Buffs had 13 kills in the second set with Codispoti and Abby Falcone having three kills apiece.
In the third set Bryan had to score past regulation ending score to clinch the set victory. Bryan battled back and went on a 5-0 run when the Buffs were sitting at 24, only needing one point to win the set and match. Milligan had out killed Bryan in the third set 12 to seven but errors were costly for the Buffs as they had 10 compared to the Lions five.
In the final set both Milligan and Bryan came out strong battling it out to the very end. Milligan finally took a hold of the lead by an Alyssa Gibson kill to make the score 10-9. Even though Milligan had the lead, Bryan did not leave them too much room for comfort as the Lions trailed right behind the Buffs to the very end. A Codispoti kill clinched the fourth set and match win.
By the numbers
Kellee Geren recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 10 digs and 49 assists. The Buffs recorded 58 kills on the night with Gregory accounting for 14, Codispoti with 13, Julie Dockery with 12, and Falcone with nine. Layla Grant led the defense with 36 digs.

Milligan travels to Kentucky Christian for another Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m. The Buffs then return home and face Truett McConnell on Friday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m.
