Multiple Buffs pick up AAC weekly awards
Four Milligan College athletes picked up Appalachian Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week awards for the week ending Sept. 15. Roberto Fernandez Garrido from men’s soccer, Nathan Baker from men’s cross country, and Kellee Geren and Julie Dockery from women’s volleyball all were awarded.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 16, 2019) – Four Milligan College athletes picked up Appalachian Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week awards for the week ending Sept. 15. Roberto Fernandez Garrido from men's soccer, Nathan Baker from men's cross country, and Kellee Geren and Julie Dockery from women's volleyball all were awarded.
Roberto Fernandez Garrido
This is Garrido's second time winning the AAC Offensive Player of the week award this season. Garrido tallied three goals in a 4-2 win at Point this past week, and scored the lone goal in the team's loss against Cumberland University. So far this season Garrido already has 10 goals, leading the AAC and putting him three away from his total amount of goals last season (13).
Nathan Baker
This is Baker's first weekly award of the season. This past week Baker won the Dual at Buffalo Creek, a three mile race where Milligan went head-to-head with AAC foe Tennessee Wesleyan. Baker posted a time of 14:55 which not only won him the race, but helped the No. 15 Milligan men's cross country team win the competition overall.
Julie Dockery and Kellee Geren
Dockery was awarded the AAC Attacker of the week award for the first time this season. Over three matches Dockery had a hitting percentage of .463. The Buffs faced Columbia and Allen over the weekend and between both games Dockery recorded 31 kills with only six errors, and had a high of 11 kills against both teams.
Geren picked up her third AAC Setter of the week award this season. She averaged 10.78 assists per set with 97 assists in nine sets. Geren posted a high of 38 assists against Columbia where she also picked up her 4,000th career assist.
