Fernandez Garrido, Geren earn AAC Athlete of the Week honor
Milligan College’s Roberto Fernandez Garrido and Kellee Geren won Appalachian Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for their respected sports this past week announced the league office Monday afternoon.
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Sept. 3, 2019) – Milligan College's Roberto Fernandez Garrido and Kellee Geren won Appalachian Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for their respected sports this past week announced the league office Monday afternoon.
Fernandez Garrido is a senior forward from Valencia, Spain. This is Fernandez Garrido's second time being honored with this award, and the first time this year. Fernandez Garrido led the Buffs to a huge 9-0 win over Midway this past week. He scored four goals, and had one assist combining for a total of nine points on the week. Fernandez Garrido was named to the all-conference second team in 2018 and led the team last season with 13 goals.
Geren, a senior from Cleveland, Tennessee, picked up her first Athlete of the Week honor for the season. This is Geren's 13th time winning this award. Geren made the all-tournament team at this past weekend's Milligan Mountain Madness tournament. She led the Buffs to three wins with 146 assists (9.73/sets), which was the most for the tournament. Last season, Geren had 1230 assists and averaged 9.8 per set. Geren was named to the all-conference team in 2018 and she was named AAC Setter of the Year in 2016.
On the schedule this week for Milligan, men's soccer is on the road Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Tusculum, and on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Dalton State before returning home Tuesday, Sept. 10, to play against Cumberland University. They will open conference play on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Point University.
Women's volleyball opens up conference play Thursday, Sept. 5, at Bryan College before traveling to Nashville to participate in the Music City Invitational. The Buffs will return home Tuesday, Sept. 10, for their first home conference match against AAC newcomer Kentucky Christian.
