Milligan Outdoor T&F Finishes Prolific Weekend at Tennessee Invitational
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - On Saturday, the Milligan outdoor track & field squads concluded their weekend at the Tennessee Invitational on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
The day began with Corey Greeson posting a 10th-place finish in the mens Hammer Throw with a toss of 45.49m after placing 11th in Discus on Friday.
Ellen-Mary Kearney's 2:11.48 in the women's 800m was good for second overall, as it was also a national standard time and the wunderkind's personal-best mark.
Luis Peralta also placed second in the men's 800m, clocking in at 1:52.36 for the Buffs.
Zion Reddick posted his personal-best outdoor Shot Put mark with a distance of 13.92m to place 15th.
McKenna Spaulding posted a ninth-place finish in the women's 3000m Steeplechase, reaching a 12:19.29 clip to become No. 30 in the NAIA at this point. It was also her personal best.
Alex Brittain placed seventh in the men's version of the 3000m Steeplechase, finishing with a 10:05.77 time.
The men's 4x400m Relay team ran a school-record, national-standard time of 3:15.59 to place third overall. Peralta, Aaron Vaughn, Brayden Simpson and Kaleb Spears combined to reach a national qualifying mark, achieving the No. 8 time in the NAIA so far this season.
"There wasn't anything advantageous about the weather conditions this weekend," said head coach Chris Layne. "The sprints had to deal with wind and the distances had to deal with heat and wind, but that is the time of year. I sound like a broken record, but I can't say enough about how these kids support each other and how they represent Buff Nation. They competed hard all weekend and continue to raise the bar for this program, and that also includes all of our coaches."
Milligan will now have a pair of weeks to rest up and prepare for the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which they will host, at Science Hille High School's Kermit Tipton Stadium in Johnson City on Apr. 17-19.
