Strong showing for Buffs at AAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship
Setting seven new AAC records, two more school records and well over a dozen personal bests, the Milligan University No. 3 men’s and No. 11 women’s track and field teams finished the AAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships with an impressive showing.
Columbia, S.C. (April 23, 2021) – Setting seven new AAC records, two more school records and well over a dozen personal bests, the Milligan University No. 3 men's and No. 11 women's track and field teams finished the AAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships with an impressive showing.
The women earned 115 pts to take 3rd place at the event, and the men finished just eight points shy of 3rd, taking 4th with 107 pts.
Emily Kearney notched three AAC records at the event, one in the 5k (15:54) one in the 1500m (4:31), and the other coming as a part of the 4x800 relay team (9:21.42), joined by Gracie Allen, Avery DeWolf, and Rebeca Glover.
Gabrielle Mardis also broke an AAC record in the 3k Steeplechase with a time of 11:15.57, a NAIA National A Standard.
For the men, Nathan Baker, Tim Thacker, and Alex Mortimer all set new records in their respective events. Thacker put up a 1:51.12 in the 800m event, a National A Standard, and Mortimer earned an NAIA National B Standard with his run of 31:34.20 in the 10k. Baker ran a 14:50.28 in the 5k, leading the clean sweep of all top five placings for the Buffs, as Jake Crow, Aaron Jones, Eli Cramer, and Pablo Rivas followed suit.
Both the men's and women's 4x4 relay teams set new school records in the event. Gracie Allen, Megan Christian, Rebecca Glover, and Kiley Wood took 4th place for the women, and JaQuan Williams, Thacker, Alex Windham, and Skylan Stephens earned 5th for the men.
Avery Dewolf, Bekah Owen, Gracie Allen, Megan Christian and Kiley Woods all set new personal bests in their respective track events, while Allie Rose and Ellie Ayers did the same in the field.
Keith Fletcher, Skylan Stephens, JaQuan Williams, and both the 4x800 and 4x100 relay teams also set new personal bests on the track side for the men. Myles Hicks and Cam Higgins would follow suit in the field.
Both teams will be in action on May 7 at Montreat College Last Chance before heading to the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships May 26-28.
