Personal bests abound for Buffs at Montreat

MONTREAT, N.C. (March 27, 2021) – A top-five mark in the pole vault from Halie Hawkins in the last event to finish Saturday night provided a fitting end to the Milligan University track & field team's efforts this week at the Montreat College Invitational.
Hawkins' vault of 3.10 meters capped a day that was all about personal bests for the Buffs.
Keith Fletcher started the day with a personal best 16.32 time in the 110 meter hurdles, followed right away by two women who nabbed personal bests in the 400 meters. Fletcher, Kiley Wood (60.86) and Megan Christian (61.40) took ninth, 11th and 12 in their respective events, and each would return to action later in the day, as Fletcher later claimed seventh in the 400 while Wood and Christian took 35th and 36th in personal bests in the 200 meters.
During the in-between, Rebecca Glover recorded an 11th-place finish in the 800, clocking a personal best 2:22.08 before Samir Koko took 28th on the men's side of the same event in a personal best 2:02.59.
Myles Hicks highlighted the field events, finishing 19th in the shot put with a personal best throw of 11.84 meters.
"Across the board, this was a solid day with a bunch of debuts and personal bests," Head Coach Chris Layne said. "Dealing with a weather delay is never easy, but I think this crew navigated it well and took advantage of their opportunities when they did come."
Up next, Milligan competes at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, set for Friday-Saturday, April 23-24, in Columbia, South Carolina.
