Indoor Track & Field turns in quality outing to open VMI Winter Relays
LEXINGTON, Va. (January 28, 2022) –Milligan University's indoor track and field teams opened the VMI Winter Relays with several national qualifying efforts and personal bests on Friday.
LEXINGTON, Va. (January 28, 2022) –Milligan University's indoor track and field teams opened the VMI Winter Relays with several national qualifying efforts and personal bests on Friday.
"Today was a good start to the weekend," said head coach Chris Layne. "This is a great facility and I think it showed in a number of our performances. Our crew took another step in the weight throw and our folks in both 1k's and the men's 5k did a nice job."
In the men's 5k, Aaron Jones and Eli Cramer recorded NAIA "A" standards as Jones finished second in 14:44.83 and Cramer was fifth in 14:50.90. Bryn Woodall also logged a national qualifying time in the event, finishing sixth in 15:47.39.
Mikel Valladares smashed his previous top 1k time with a 2:38.28 effort to finish seventh. His time was nearly five seconds faster than his PB at the start of the day.
Gracie Allen took third in the 1k with a personal record time of 3:04.21. Rebecca Glover clocked in at 3:18.67 to finish 11th.
Natalie Fellers took ninth in the women's 5k with a 20:15.09 in her collegiate debut in the event. Lauren Spry was 11th in 20:56.62.
Ellie Ayers and Joy Reks both recorded personal bests in the weight throw. Ayers tossed 11.47 meters and Reks threw 10.45 meters. Corey Geeson matched his personal best in the weight throw (12.33) as well.
Halie Hawkins was 11th in the pole vault after clearing 3.05 meters.
