Stockey and Burton claim AAC Runner of the Week honors for second-straight week
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (January 25, 2022) – Milligan University student-athletes Will Stockley and Avery DeWolf Burton collected Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Indoor Track Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (January 25, 2022) – Milligan University student-athletes Will Stockley and Avery DeWolf Burton collected Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Indoor Track Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Stockley notched a national qualifying mark in the 1k with a converted 2:30.51 effort to take first in a field of 29 runners at the JDL Fast is Flat Invitational on Sunday. It marks the fourth different event that Stockley has run an NAIA qualifying time for this season. His 1k time was the top mark in the AAC this season and the No. 7 time nationally.
Stockley also helped the Buffs to a first place showing in the 4x800 meter relay. He combined with Sylas Chambers, Nathan Baker and Jake Crow to run a converted 8:00.86, the top time in the AAC and No. 7 time in the nation.
Burton also won the 1k at JDL with a national qualifying time on Sunday. She toped a field of 16 runners with a converted time of 3:01.41, the best time in the AAC this winter and No. 5 time in the NAIA.
Burton teamed with Caitlin Dominy, Gracie Allen and Kiley Wood to win the 4x800 relay on the women's side at JDL. The Buffs' converted time of 9:43.47 narrowly missed the national standard and currently sits as the No. 5 time nationally.
Milligan indoor track and field heads to the VMI Winter Relays this weekend.
