Indoor Track impresses in 2021-22 opening weekend at App State and JDL Fast Track
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (December 4, 2021) – The Milligan University men's and women's track and field teams began their indoor season with strong opening marks at the Appalachian State Invitational and the Visit Winston-Salem College Kickoff at the JDL Fast Track.

"It's so good to get so many of our crew going in December," said head coach Chris Layne. "Our student-athletes on the track and field side have worked really hard this Fall and Coach O'Neill and Coach Davis have done a great job getting them ready to go."
JDL Fast Track
Fresh off an NAIA individual cross country title two weeks ago, Alyssa Bearzi notched an NAIA national "A" standard in the 5k with a 17:53.89 time to finish second overall. Caitlin Dominy took third in the 5k in 18:38.34, a PB of over 20 seconds.
Gracie Allen notched a pair of PRs and in her collegiate debut in the 3k and mile. She ran a converted national qualifying time in the 3k in 10:29.92 to finish third and posted a 5:19.04 in the mile to take fourth.
In the women's 600, Megan Christian logged a PB at 1:42.30 and Kiley Wood finished half a second behind her personal record with an 1:43.05 effort.
"The approach with our distance crew at JDL was to go after a few national marks coming off cross country and then at App it was about getting as many AAC standards out of the way as possible," said Layne.
App State Invite
Halie Hawkins registered a career best pole vault of 3.21 meters to finish fifth.
Keith Fletcher reached the finals in the 55 hurdles with a PB of 8.13 in prelims. He posted an 8.27 in the finals to take sixth.
Jemimah Ndune and Laurie Colvett finished 1-2 in the 400 meter dash.
Evan Henson ran 9:11.88, a personal best, in the 3k to finish third.
Anna Jones and Annie Kate McDermott were fourth and fifth respectively in the 3k. Zimri Kuhn and Matt Huff were fifth and sixth in the mile, just seconds away from the Appalachian Athletic Conerence (AAC) qualifying time.
Lauren Spry was seventh in the mile and seven in the 3k.
Sam Sosebee took eighth in the 800 in his collegiate debut.
Corey Greeson logged a top 10 finish in the shot put with a heave of 11.92 meters to take 10th.
Allie Rose was a centimeter shy of her personal best in the shot put with a toss of 11.21 meters in her final collegiate meet before she graduates later this month.
Milligan's throwers kicked off the indoor track season with the weight throw on Friday evening at App State. Rose threw a PB of 12.13 meters and JaDejsha Arnold posted a 10.79-meter mark in her collegiate debut. Ellie Ayers added two meters to her personal best with a 10.14 meter heave. Iliana Martinez debuted with a weight throw of 9.10 meters.
