MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Feb. 1, 2021) – Avery DeWolf and Tim Thacker of the Milligan University track & field team have been named Appalachian Athletic Conference track athletes of the week, announced the AAC Monday afternoon.
DeWolf won the weekly nod for the fourth time this season and fifth time in her career while Thacker won for the second time this season and sixth time in his career. This also marked DeWolf's second straight time winning track athlete of the week following the opening week of the season last November.
DeWolf earned the award thanks to running the No. 2 time in the NAIA over 3000 meters with a personal best by over 26 seconds (9:57.91) last Saturday at the VMI Winter Relays. She also ran on the winning Women's Distance Medley Relay team which notched the No. 3 time in the NAIA (12:36.78).
Thacker ran the No. 1 mile time in the NAIA and finished third overall as the top non-NCAA Division I athlete. He also ran the No. 7 800 meter time in the NAIA to finish second overall. Thacker's mile time was his fastest ever in a season opener, and he ran the two races only 80 minutes apart.
Milligan will next be in action Friday-Saturday, Feb. 5-6, when the Buffaloes send split squads to the Buccaneer Invitational in Johnson City, Tennessee, and the CIU Rams February Invitational in Columbia, South Carolina. They will then return to VMI for the VMI Classic the following weekend as the final tune-up to the AAC Championships (Feb. 18-19) and NAIA national championships (March 3-6).
