Buffaloes Tennis Teams Dominate in Home Wins over Columbia
MILLIGAN, Tenn. – Milligan University's tennis teams returned home for Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchups with the Columbia College Koalas on Saturday afternoon at Mathes Tennis Center. The teams dominated the visitors, as they combined to lose just one singles match, en route to 7-0 (M) and 6-1 (W) triumphs.
The men had very little resistance in singles, as Gonzaga Lafarga won his No. 1 match 6-2, 6-2 to start things. Tomas Tenil's 6-2,6-4 win was the closest final tally of the afternoon for the men, as Michal Curlej won 6-0, 6-1, Martin Mercarder nabbed a 6-0, 6-1 win, Ryan Thomas completed a 6-2, 6-1 victory, and Brayden Kennedy won match No. 6 by a final of 6-0, 6-1.
Matches No. 2 and No. 3 in doubles gave the men the point, as Marcos Moreno and Thiago Petry won 6-1, while Bryant Morales and Thomas took a 6-2 decision in their favor.
Marta Miralles started things off strong with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the No. 1 singles matchup. Milligan's No. 3 singles player, Lauren Wimmer, also took a win (6-1, 6-0). Tiana Shelton came out with a 6-0, 7-6 (2) triumphant result for MU's third singles win. Trinity Fox then won 6-2, 6-1 and Laurel Rich matched that tally in the No. 6 match to earn a total of five singles wins.
Just like the men, the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairings earned the doubles point. Lee Ann Endler and Shelton teamed up to down their opposition 6-2, while Wimmer and Fox echoed that score in the No. 3 matchup.
Next up for the two squads is another set of AAC battles with the Montreat College Cavaliers at Mathes Tennis Center on Monday, Mar. 24 at 1 p.m.
