Tennis sweeps Bluefield on Senior Day
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (April 2, 2022) – The Milligan University men's and women's tennis teams earned victories over Bluefield on Saturday afternoon at the Mathes Tennis Center. Milligan's men won 6-1 and the women triumphed 7-0 in Milligan's first day of competition after the tragic death of cross country/track runner Eli Cramer.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (April 2, 2022) – The Milligan University men's and women's tennis teams earned victories over Bluefield on Saturday afternoon at the Mathes Tennis Center. Milligan's men won 6-1 and the women triumphed 7-0 in Milligan's first day of competition after the tragic death of cross country/track runner Eli Cramer.
Milligan's men concluded the regular season with an 11-6 (3-4 AAC) record, the Buffs' winningest season in over 15 years. The women's tennis team rose to 12-6 and notched their fourth conference victory of the season, the most for the Buffs since 2017.
Bluefield only traveled with two women and four men. Kaitlin Barrett and Karson Light scored a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles and the Buffs collected forfeits at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. In the men's match, Milligan took the doubles point with Justin Rigsby and Landon Brown earning a 6-3 win and collected the No. 3 doubles point via forfeit.
In singles play, Light scored a 6-2, 6-0 win in the women's No. 1 spot. Hannah Nelson took a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.
On the men's side, Derian Janeke (6-0, 6-1), Ryan Thomas (6-0, 6-0) and Daniel Roshak (6-0, 6-0) scored wins in second, third and fourth singles, respectively.
Both tennis teams will compete at the AAC Tournament quarterfinals on April 14 at the Champion's Club in Chattanooga.
