Milligan men’s and women’s tennis take down Morningside for third straight spring break sweep
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (March 9, 2022) – The Milligan University men's and women's tennis teams scored a pair of victories over Morningside on Wednesday morning at Hilton Head.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (March 9, 2022) – The Milligan University men's and women's tennis teams scored a pair of victories over Morningside on Wednesday morning at Hilton Head.
Milligan's men scored a 6-1 victory to rise to 9-2 on the season and drop Morningside to 5-2. The Buffs' women's tennis team moved to 8-3 on the year with a 5-2 win while the Mustangs fell to 5-4.
In the men's match, Milligan won the top two doubles flights to earn the doubles point. Nathan Smiley and Carter Rigsby combined for a 6-3 win at top doubles while Ryan Thomas and Justin Rigsby notched a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles. Daniel Roshak and Landon Brown battled to the end at No. 3 doubles, ultimately falling 7-6 (8-6).
Milligan won five of six singles matchups to secure the team win. Nathan Smiley took first singles (6-3, 601), Carter Rigsby took a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles and Marcos Moreno earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory at third singles. Justin Rigsby recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles and Ryan Thomas closed out a strong showing for the Buffs with a 6-0, 6-3 win in the final singles slot.
Milligan's women's tennis team downed a shorthanded Mustangs' squad that played without a third doubles duo and a sixth singles player. Morningside earned the doubles point with a slim 7-6 (7-5) win over Sophie Dunman and Katie Leonard at No. 1 singles.
Kaitlin Barrett took a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, Macy Kennedy scored a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles, Kylie Enarson secured a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at third singles and Karson Light won 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles.
Milligan men's and women's tennis square off with Marian tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. The Buffs' women's team comes back at 1:00 p.m. to play NCAA Division II West Liberty as well.
