Women’s Tennis opens season at Southeast ITA Regional Championships
RICHMOND, Ky. (September 17, 2021) – The Milligan University women’s tennis team opened its season at the Southeast Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships at Eastern Kentucky University.
RICHMOND, Ky. (September 17, 2021) – The Milligan University women's tennis team opened its season at the Southeast Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships at Eastern Kentucky University.
The Buffs sent six players to compete in singles and doubles action. Each doubles pairing competed in the opening round of the doubles tournament. Three singles players notched a first round win to advance to the round of 32 before bowing out.
Milligan's doubles pairings of Sophie Dunman and Kaitlin Barrett, Karson Light and Hannah Nelson, Kylie Enarson and Macy Kennedy opened their seasons on Thursday. All three pairings dropped their first round matchups to opponents from Freed Hardeman, Georgetown and Cumberlands, respectively.
All six players competed in first round singles action on Thursday as well, with three players notching a win to open their season.
Enarson defeated Addison Sutton from Campbellsvile 6-2, 6-3. Barrett earned a 6-0, 6-03 win over Emma Hill of Georgetown and Karson Light earned a spot in the round of 32 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Thomas More's Kimberly Sabga 6-0, 6-2.
The Buffs ran into several seeded opponents in the second round and each player bowed out in Friday's singles play.
The singles and doubles regional tournaments conclude Saturday and Sunday. Over the weekend, the Buffs will take on Emory & Henry, King, Mars Hill and Brevard in dual matches.
